Mud Trax Alternative

When tire chains are needed for a vehicle, weather conditions are usually at their worst with extremely cold temperatures, often accompanied by winds, snowing, and icy roads. The normal procedure for installing snow chains requires that the vehicle be rolled onto the chains. Anyone who has ever been stuck in a soft-traction situation has wished for this product. Even here in California, the need for chains often surfaces in the mountain areas of places like the Sierra Nevadas and the Mountain Lake regions of Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead in San Bernardino County. In these circumstances often the only thing you can do is use your driving skills to keep control, slow down and avoid hitting anything or anyone else. This can often happen overnight if the snow has melted or been driven over the previous day. But once we read the directions and tried it in our driveway, we learned that installation is quite easy. If a tire chain is not adjusted properly every few miles, it becomes loose and can smack the inside of your wheel well and bounce off of the treads and sidewalls of your tires. You should only put chains on if there is snow or ice on the road. Installing standard show chains is a time consuming, cumbersome, and generally unpleasant experience that requires getting in and out of the vehicle three times to complete the entire process.

A new aspect that we show here is the availability of something other than traditional chains. It is good practice to approach these areas with caution. This may require that the person installing the chains lay down on the cold, wet ground, which is covered by snow on the shoulder of a busy roadside. This can lead to major damage to critical components and equipment on your car or truck.

That's right, these "traction cables," as they are called, are not made using standard chain.mud trax alternative

Before You Buy, Check Backside Clearance

Our Size Finder lets you determine which size GoClaws you need to fit your tire. However, you also need to determine if GoClaws will fit your vehicle.

For GoClaws to fit without interference, your vehicle will need at least 7/8 inch (22 mm) clearance between the tire and the vehicle. The most common obstructions are...

  • Strut towers
  • Brake Lines
  • Springs
  • Inner wheelwell

Due to limited clearance. we do NOT recommend GoClaws for front wheel drive vehicles.

Please check your vehicle by running the palm of your hand around the backside of the tire. If the back of your hand hits anything, you probably cannot use GoClaws.
